Ostrich Weekly Forecast: Feb 24

Feeling down? Try looking down.

"Weekly Forecast" crows the rusty iron weathercock.

On many of the faces I've seen this week you can read the word February. To which you're probably thinking, "Man, I don't think it's February on people's faces. I think it's the world falling apart." And that's true, but the world is falling apart in February, which is the second-worst month for that sort of thing. (July is the worst month, and, well, about that.)

But the forecast this week is for one small thing, or, rather, a lot of small things, and those things are crocuses. In my part of the pond the crocuses are open, and you can smell daphne up and down the street. And that means we're no longer waiting for the flowers, we're watching their progress. Crocus, tulip, daffodil, iris, dogwood, cherry, and so on. Then comes the fruit, and on we sail, all the way through October.

In short, it's a good week for looking down.
