Summer By the Numbers

Statistics from my Summer of Quantity

Summer By the Numbers

My Summer of Quantity, an attempt to nudge myself toward personal growth by means of record keeping, was not exceedingly successful, if you judge by either the nudging or the record keeping. Still, I promised I'd publish the data at the end, and here we are at the first day of fall.

Max days of sustained food/exercise logging: 2

Glasses of water: More than 6. (Lost count June 22)

Starting weight: 169.4
Ending weight: 173.2

Footsteps, as recorded by phone or smart watch:
June 21-30: 62,108
July: 125,598
August: 138,401
September: 112,844
Total: 438,951

(I didn't always wear my watch or carry my phone, but the daily average of 4,824 is not very high, and probably closer to the truth than I'd like. Goes to show how well-acquainted I am with my computer desk.)

Cripp's Pink Lady apples eaten: many

Lundberg's Cinnamon Toast rice cakes eaten: too many

Creative words written: 42,470

Number of agents queried for unpublished novel: 0

Pacific Northwest towns visited: 26
Our travel goal for the summer was to visit sundry towns in Oregon and Washington. Covid kept us home from Central Oregon, or the list would be longer, but here, at least, is evidence that I didn't spend the whole summer in front of a screen.

Towns are included if I spent at least an hour there, or ate a full meal.

Included towns:
Albany, Ore
Beaverton, Ore
Corvallis, Ore
Eastsound, Wash (Recommend: whole town. Advisory: tavern crows)
Edmonds, Wash
Enterprise, Ore (Advisory: Not very enterprising)
Eugene, Ore
Island City, Ore (Recommend: Mom'Ma Bear's Burgers)
Joseph, Ore (Recommend: Joseph Branch Railriders)
Kennewick, Wash
Lakebay, Wash (Advisory: ants)
Lowell, Ore
La Grande, Ore
Milwaukie, Ore
Newberg, Ore (Advisory: aunts)
Olympia, Wash (Advisory: McDonald's run by nihilists)
Orcas, Wash
Pasco, Wash
Portland, Ore
Richland, Wash (Recommend: Spudnut Shop)
Rosario, Wash
Scappoose, Ore
Smokey Point, Wash
Tigard, Ore
Tualatin, Ore
Wilsonville, Ore

Honorable Mention (spent slightly less than an hour): Anacortes, Wash; Hood River, Ore; Olga, Wash; Port Orchard, Wash.

Surprisingly Absent: the Oregon Coast. I'll have to correct that in the fall, along with every other stat above.
